  • About the user: My name is Liselotte, I am a new media specialist who researches digital technologies and fashion. In the past four years I studied new media at the UvA. I just finished my Bachelor with a thesis about: "Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings: the digital collaboration between Peter Jackson, George Lucas and their online fan communities." In January 2010 Omnicom Group Inc offered me a four-month internship at four different major advertising agencies in both London and Amsterdam. At DDB London and Amsterdam, RAPP and Ketchum Pleon in London. Throughout my internship I had the possibility to be part of a creative atmosphere, to work with people on different projects, investigate the relationship between media and advertisement, learn how websites and advertisement are created, be part of the creative process and observe how a finished product effects the marketplace and public. I learned a lot about advertising and PR, and it gave me a really good insight in the creative industries. Before I went there I got hired as a fashion editor for Dutch fashion website ‘I love fashion news.com’. In addition to my internship I used my free time to write articles for the website, to share my fashionable London experiences weekly online. Through my internship I learned a lot about advertising, but it also made me realise that I was more interested in fashion. That is the reason that I wrote an application letter to American fashion magazine Harper' s Bazaar. They invited my to New York and later hired me as the first international student as an assistant on the accessory department. Unfortunately due to legal issues I could not get a visa and my internship at Harper's Bazaar was cancelled. I decided to apply at a French high fashion magazine in the Netherlands named L'Officiel. One of the big three fashion magazines in France. I got hired there as a fashion assistant and learned extremely much about the fashion industry. Currently I am an MA student New Media and it seems extremely interesting to me to explore the relationship between new media and the fashion industry.

The fashion industry is becoming more digital through incorporating digital media. Some fashion houses and magazines succeed better then the others and the level of involvement differs extremely. This week the New York Fashion Week kicked off the global calendar of Fashion Weeks and for the first time the organizers are streaming more than 30 shows live in partnership with YouTube.
