Interactive art is a genre of art in which the viewers participate in a way by providing an input in order to determine the outcome (Wikipedia, 2011a). I heart Illustrator

My first experience with Inkscape

Ever since I started Art Academy in 2000 I use Adobe’s vector graphics software program Illustrator to create logo’s, cards, brochures, posters and other kinds of hard-copy. But although I find it a great piece of software, Illustrator is an expensive product. It alone costs €855,61. Because of this, and also because of…

The Future of Magazine Publishing in the digital age

In fact, magazines were pioneers in niche content before cable TV and the Internet came along and usurped them with the flashy video of the former and the interactive communities of the latter. (Glaser, 2005)

Last week Dutch artist Dennis Sibeijn found out that someone had used his work ‘Truth’ (left) in a competition in Taiwan and actually won. The Taiwanese student who stole the image had not even bothered to edit it it, he just used it right away. Ironically enough, the theme of the design contest was the protection of copyright in design.

Book Review: Inherend Vice, bootleg history of videotape and copyright. By Lucas Hilderbrand.

Since I grew up in the eighties, the complete history of videotape which this book starts off with made me visit places I passed a long time ago. At moments the recognition was instantly. For instance I recollect a Monday morning in the early nineties, when I was about ten years old. We were sitting in a circle in classroom.…

Augmented Reality through the appearance of a little green man

Meet Proto. This little green man appeared on my hand today when I was about to write this blog post. Off course he didn’t ‘just’ appear to me like the virgin Mary. His arrival was caused by an almost magic collaboration between my webcam, Flash, and the use of a symbol printed on ordinairy paper.
