Dissemination of Social Network Sites

Social network sites are very popular within media studies. They are common research subjects. How often did you refer to Facebook or LinkedIn when writing an article? There is not one way to explore the universe of social media. But what direction do you need to go to reach that academic level? Is a Marxist approach necessary…

The Arab media revolution

Since there have been inventions for the use of communication amongst the human race there have been institutions, governments and corporations trying to control them. As Noam Chomsky cites: ‘Unless people are controlled, they are going to challenge power’. The same goes for media in my opinion: unless it’s controlled, it’s going to challenge the established power.

Using Twitter To Support 3FM’s ‘Serious Request’ Campaign

Using Facebook, Youtube, Hyves and Twitter in particular for the good cause? It’s possible in the coming weeks with Serious Retweets. The site www.seriousretweets.nl supports the yearly 3FM campaign ‘Het glazen huis‘ which is based on dj’s who stick together in a box of glass in december for several days, isolated and without food to collect money for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The different faces of Twitter

The enormous growth of the social networking site that is Twitter has many a person wondering. Suddenly every self-respecting website, newspaper, enterprise or person has a Twitter account, which enables Twitter users to follow. Even though the amount of press attention is through the roof and the hype is definitely worth looking at, what strikes me most about Twitter…

The use of the Internet and the computer has resulted in that the digital medium differs from the analog medium. Examples of this are online encyclopedia such as: wikipedia, Filmaffinity, Flixster, ANobii. The last three examples are…
