This e-book contains 32 pages and can be found here.

Spannerworks is a company in the UK that provides search engine optimisation, and paid search and social media optimisation. Therefore this company has written a short e-book to explain to people in media, marketing and communications what social media is.

And that is exactly what it does: it gives an overview of what social media is and what kind of social media exist (such as blogs, wikis, social networks, podcasts and folksonomies).

The book is very low treshold and it is especially meant for people who are not in the new media or ICT field. In a very clear way social media types are mentioned and a couple examples that are popular are given. Therefore the book talks about Flickr, Wikipedia, various types of blogs, podcasts, second life, YouTube, Myspace etc. etc.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in knowing the popular ways people are using the Internet these days. For people in the field of new media it may not be very interesting, because the book only gives a superficial overview and you are probably used to a bit more indepth discussion. However, it might mention a couple of social media did not know yet.
The book is also interesting for users of the internet who are interested in getting new fun ideas to spent time with your friends or to meet new people who share the same interests.
