Ask the Masters: Which Dutch party has the best agenda for New Media developments?
On: November 20, 2006
Wednesday the 22nd of November is Election Day in The Netherlands. Which party has the most promising program for New Media scientists, New Media creators/designers, and New Media consumers? Which party will invest in New Media developers and theorists, in order to put The Netherlands on top of the technological and innovative map?
I’ll quote from the Groen Links “Groei Mee” 2006 election program, the section called “Open Cultuur”:

There still seems to be a divide between New Media as an art form and New Media more closely related to ICT.
VVD only has general points, not specifically concerning new media education:
positive point:
A point that I don’t really agree with:
I agree with the first bit that says that universities and hogescholen should work together to combine disciplines. However, I don’t agree with making universities commercial companies that buy and sell knowlegde.
That’s typical VVD: privatizing (Schiphol) and commercializing (education). OUCH!
The world is not a marketplace. Neither is cyberspace.
I think it’s interesting a lot of parties (not the VVD of course) mention the stimulation of the use of open-source software.
This led me to the anti-marketplace ideology party: SP / Verkiezingsprogramma: Een beter Nederland, voor hetzelfde geld
I like the way the SP offers their election program in different ways: read online, download PDF, download printer-friendly PDF, ultra-short 10-point summary and last but not least Podcast RSS and M3U stream! WOW! How modern! :)
And the search continues.
D66 only briefly mentions internet related issues. Of course it sees the internet and e-mail as the perfect way for the government to reach the people and as tool for the people to reach the government.
It recognizes the importance of the internet, but unfortunately adds nothing more (besides the service value for government services) than seeing it as a replacement/addition to television.
And yet another audio file of the election program!
Just a small proof that the masters of media are on top of everything!!!
I am at the Pakhuis de Zwijger at the moment and rumour here is that Halsema, Bos and Marijnissen will have their cup of coffee and talk about their leftist autumn downstairs at the restaurant of the Pakhuis de Zwijger building. They are supposed to come in a while now. Hmmmmm, let’s watch the news and see if it’s true!
thats funny
From the CDA election programme:
Is that also an issue for the other parties? Digital crime?
Yeah, it’s a big issue for the SP as well (see my quote).
Let’s focus on the bright side of new media!
:)
BTW: it wasn’t a rumour, they were there! :)
The VVD will be at het muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ tonight, so media vans and journalists and camera’s were all over!
Yea, now I see it in the SP programme. True, we should look on the bright side of New Media life :)
I also found this article from Webwereld.nl called ‘De ict-standpunten van de politieke partijen’
SP for victory <3
Ook leuk trouwens, de tagcloud van GroenLinks, nog meer partijen die dat doen?

nice.. however I don’t see a ‘media’ tag…. nor anything like it
Hm, sorry I posted that last one in Dutch by the way :) Since I’m one of the floating voters myself, I keep searching for more info on politics and media and culture. This is a great document on the Art & Culture policies of the various parties:
