Justice vs. Power; Chomsky vs Foucault
On: August 18, 2007
Through Chris Perkins’ blog I found these great videos of Chomsky and Foucault. Recorded for Dutch television in 1971, it shows the two discussing their theories, being mainly the concepts of justice and power in these fragments.
Great find. Should the sub-subtitle be ‘U.S. idealism vs. Old Europe cynicism’?
Definitely. This perhaps also defines, in a way, the incompatibility between French and American culture? i.e. indeed idealism vs. cynicism.
Freedom Fries hurray!
eeep, i saw these quite a while ago, didnt cross my mind they were blogworthy
hey, at least we have a chomsky tag now :D
at any rate, what i recall from the debate is that nothing much mattered, they both mostly seem to agree that everything is fubar, but they disagree on what should happen (first) to fix things.
Yarr.
we couldn’t have closed this year properly without at least a chomsky tag :)
